Sizzlin’ Summer Steak

Since I am already picturing summer in my head, I have been craving some steak.

There’s nothing more relaxing than hanging outside with your loved ones chatting away with a light, warm summer breeze. Summer is my favorite season (as if you hadn’t noticed) because I love that I can finally have a break from school, so there’s no stress about homework, papers, or finals.

In the summer my schedule is unpredictable, actually even calling it a schedule is wrong, I like to NOT plan my day and go with the flow; it’s my chance to be spontaneous.

I am making my goal to be more adventurous for the upcoming summer.

What’s your goal for the summer?

Anyway…back to the steak! 

When choosing steak I go with the leanest cut, but I also enjoy those with nice marbling (fat going through the steak that resembles a marble or marble counter tops, I know the last one is a weird comparison, bear with me).

Then I season it with McCormick’s Fiery Pepper seasoning because it’s my favorite! It gives the steak amazing color, and flavor.

After seasoning I hand it off to the guys so they can grill it. I’ve had a bad experience with grills involving burnt eyelashes (hint, hint).

Once it’s done, you’ll want to wait until you cut it so the natural juices stay inside and keep the meat nice and juicy.

Tropical Smoothie

Summer is right around the corner and I have a delicious tropical smoothie recipe!

Here’s what you’ll need:

(Note: I don’t like exact measurements, I free-hand everything)

  • A blender
  • 1 Handful of kale
  • About 1/2 cup of diced pineapple
  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • 1 orange

You can also add banana, strawberries, or even avocado for an extra creamy drink!

Place kale, pineapple, orange into the blender, along with 1/3 of cup of the coconut milk and a little water, and blend away friends!

The outcome: A super tastymakes-youwanttotakeatriptoHawaiiorsomewheretropical blended drink, and in the summer I suggest you add ice for an extra coolness factor.

Paleo Burgers!

Hi friends!
I have an awesome paleo burger recipe for you. It’s thick, juicy, full of flavor and as if it couldn’t get better, it has some BACON!Who doesn’t love bacon?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Ground beef
  • Meat seasoning
  • Lettuce
  • Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Jalapeño
  • Bacon

Let’s get started!
First, you’ll need about a pound of ground beef, I get the organic kind from Costco.
I season it with McCormick’s Fiery Pepper seasoning for added spice and heat, and mix in about half a cup of chopped onion, and a tablespoon of finely diced jalapeno.

Next, preheat large skillet.
At this point you’ll start forming golf-size balls of the beef and begin forming into patties.

After, take a tablespoon of coconut oil and pour it into the skillet. Wait as it heats, and place patties on pan. About 4 will fit (depending how small or big).

While the patties cook, you’ll need a smaller pan to cook the bacon in (moderation is key! Half a slice of bacon per burger will do the trick)

Chop lettuce about the size of burger buns. Slice avocado, tomato, and onion.

Finally, once the patties have fully cooked (my preference) I begin assembling my burger. In this order: lettuce “bun,” patty, tomato, onion, avocado, bacon, lettuce “bun.”

Public Service Announcement: Water Talk!


How many times have you peed today?



OR too many times to keep track of?

If you have checked yourself into the 1-3 category, you’re more than likely dehydrated. I am by no means a doctor, but it’s pretty simple to say you have not drank enough water.


For those of you who have gone #1 today 3-5 times, did you check how clear your urine was?

Yes, it might not be the most pleasant view, but it’s important to assess the clarity of your urine because it will be a reflection of how much water you intake.

My people who are always in the bathroom, get some diapers already, sheesh! Just kidding, no need to take offense, it’s all in good humor. You- my friends are amazing because you are listening to your body and keeping yourself hydrated.

Here’s a challenge, substitute all sugary drinks for water (for beginners). For my more advanced (already solely drinking water) people, check how clear your pee is. The more yellow your pee is, the more water you should drink. Once your pee is clear/nearly clear, pat yourself in the back for doing a good job, your body will thank you!

Like my favorite rapper Kendrick Lamar says,

Pour up… drank, head shot… drank
Sit down… drank, stand up… drank
Pass out… drank, wake up… drank”

I know he is most likely not speaking of water per say, but lets pretend he is!

My Top 5 favorite Paleo Blogs!

I have always loved looking at fellow paleo bloggers for inspiration and motivation. I love witnessing everyone’s creative juices flow. I love researching different recipes and gathering bits and pieces from my favorite blogs, this way I am able to tweak the recipe to my liking.

5. MyPaleoPlan.com

The creator of mypaleoplan is a middle-aged man who embarked on the paleo journey like most of us did, to feel better and lose some fat. I love his no B.S. attitude. He tells it like it is, and I admire that. The recipes he posts look amazing and I will try them all one day.

4. PaleOMG

first of all, LOVE the name! Super cute idea, and second of all her recipes always look delicious! I enjoy reading her “rants” and I love that she has dedicated a full section to them, you go girl! My favorite recipe is the Citrus Marinated Chicken Lettuce Wraps. the chicken is moist, full of flavor, and the bacon adds for extra deliciousness.

3. Paleo Everyday

Sarah is the main owner of the blog, but what makes her unique is the team behind her successful blog and cookbooks. She, like many of my favorite bloggers is a CrossFit enthusiast. She has a family and puts out many paleo, family friendly recipes.

2. Elana’s Pantry

She is a mom, food-lover, and extremely creative with her baking recipes (one of the best, I must say). The paleo recipes on her blog are always straight forward, and fool proof. I enjoy reading about pieces of her day with every recipe she introduces.

1. Nom Nom Paleo

This is the very first paleo blog I began reading and I fell in love with all her recipes. I might also be a bit bias given the fact we are both from the Bay Area (represent!) I am not surprised by the amount of success she has earned. Her unique recipes and laid-back attitude make it super easy to get hooked onto her blog.

(Kinda) Paleo friendly Starbucks drinks!

Hi friends! If you’re anything like me and love Starbucks but want to stick with eating paleo, i have something for you!

While eating paleo, it is recommended you stay away from caffeine, however, a bit once in a while surely won’t hurt 😉 I have found many options for drinks that are low calorie (I don’t really care about calories, and I am not one to count my calorie intake, but if you’re into that, then here you go) these drinks are also pretty delicious. Try to stay away from frappuccinos since they have a ton of sugar, and milk, and delicious whipped cream (I’m drooling). So you’ll notice I have excluded anything with milk, due to paleo guidelines.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I discovered I am lactose intolerant!! I used to love milk, and go through a gallon within a week. Since I eliminated milk from daily consumption, I am no longer bloated, and experiencing digestive problems (TMI, I know) but I just had to tell you all.

Eating Out Tips

It may seem difficult to continue eating paleo while everyone else eats what they please. You may feel left out, or want to give up, but you don’t have to be so hard on yourself. If you plan on sticking to primal eating there are options for you.

Most restaurants will offer some sort of veggie medley, and meat whether it is pork, chicken, steak, or even fish.

Tips for ordering meat:

  • Ask for grilled, or baked.
  • Beware of key words such as “fried” as it contains unnecessary fat and excess salt.
  • You can also ask for no sodium on your dishes since salt and pepper are usually always available in one’s table. This will allow you to control the amount of salt you consume.
  • SAY NO TO SAUCE : Sauces are a little tricky as well because many are made with heavy creams, loads of cheese, and salt. It’s okay to ask for no sauce or asking for it on the side, again, taking control of what you intake.
  • Skip out on the bread, and chips, and instead order a small salad or a healthy appetizer.
  • I always ask for water with my meals, you can also request a lemon for flavoring.
  • If this seems like too much effort, do not feel guilty for indulging in a cheat meal. I do my best to strictly eat paleo, but sometimes life gets in the way and I have found that after eating a non-paleo meal, I remember the reasons why I began eating paleo. Yes, cheat meals are delicious, but you also don’t want to un-do the progress you’ve made by allowing a cheat meal to become a cheat-week (I’ve been guilty of this and I hope I’m not the only one).

Point is, there are ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle while keeping one’s goals in mind, but it’s also important to not exclude yourself from socializing with friends or family due to your dietary restrictions (you don’t want to be that person). I hope this was a bit helpful and remember you are in control.

If you are a meat lover you have come to the right place. Eating paleo means consuming all sorts of protein, the most popular being chicken and beef. Today we will be focusing on beef and I’m so excited to let you all in on an amazing deal I came across.

My favorite recipes including ground beef are tacos, (I’m Mexican and we love our tacos), stuffed bell peppers, picadillo (another traditional Mexican dish similar to a stew made with carrots and potatoes), and the American favorite, burgers! Stay tuned for my paleo burger recipe coming soon!



As I strolled through the crowds of people at Costco I thankfully made it across to the meat section without devouring every sample offered. Lets be real, how many of us have gone back to the same sample stand more than once, pretending it was your first time? I know I’m guilty of it. Because many of the samples offered aren’t paleo friendly I tend to do my best to ignore them and keep on movin’! I was on the search for lean ground beef, but to my surprise I stumbled across Kirkland’s Organic Ground Beef. I was excited because 1. It was organic and 2. Costco’s low prices which came out to cost less than $15 for three pounds of organic ground beef. Pretty amazing! Most organic meat that I have seen in the grocery store is outrageously priced so of course I had to take advantage of this great deal.

Easter is quickly approaching, but it does not mean that is the only time suitable for eggs. Eggs are a quick and delicious way to fit in your daily protein. They are versatile enough to have for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all meals in between.

There is much controversy in regards to the amount of cholesterol eggs contain, however, it has been show that eggs increase one’s good cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL). In fact, much of the typical American breakfast such as bacon and toast contain severe levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL), the bad cholesterol known to cause heart disease, strokes among other illnesses according to the American Heart Association. 

Eggs are my favorite way to start the day because they keep me full for a long time, and there are many ways to consume eggs. I have been obsessed with veggies and egg scramble.


Here’s how I make them:

1 tbsp coconut oil

1/2  Italian zucchini

1/2 bell pepper (red, green or yellow)

1/4 cup of diced tomato

1/4 cup of diced onion

1 handful of kale

1 sprinkle of salt and pepper

2 eggs


In a small fry pan heat up coconut oil and cook zucchini until soft. Next, place onion, peppers, and tomato. Lightly beat eggs and mix into the vegetables. Once eggs are almost fully cooked (avoid salmonella) add in kale, salt and pepper. Remove from heat when done cooking and enjoy!
